14ers outrun Dakota, 126-116, in final Showcase game

January 17, 2007 - NBA G League (G League) News Release

SIOUX FALLS, S.D., Jan. 17, 2007 - The Colorado 14ers shot 59-percent from the field to outrun the Dakota Wizards, 126-116, as the first-place teams from each division faced off in the final game of the 2007 NBA Development League MLK Showcase Wednesday at the Sioux Falls Arena.

Colorado, leading Idaho in the Western division, improved to 14-6 and hosts the Anaheim Arsenal in the Broomfield Event Center Friday at 7 p.m. MT. Dakota, leading Fort Worth in the Eastern division, drops to 14-4. The Wizards face Fort Worth at 7 p.m. CT Friday at the Bismarck Civic Center.

"This game we did a nice job of controlling the tempo and making sure we got the shots we wanted," Colorado 14ers coach Joe Wolf said. "Last time we played them up there at their place, they took advantage of our youth. We didn't get shots at the basket."

Five Colorado players scored in double figures as the 14ers hit 46-of-78 (59 percent) attempts from the field, including 7-of-14 (50 percent) from behind the arc. Forward Elton Brown led Colorado scorers with 25 points and eight rebounds. Von Wafer contributed 22 to the cause while Pooh Jeter added 19. Mike Harris came off the bench with 18.

"Our system is to make sure that we get good shot attempts for our team," Wolf said. "We were just active with and without the ball. All in all, it was a good effort by everybody on the court."

Dakota converted 44-of-87 (50 percent) shots, including 7-of-16 (43 percent) three-point attempts, but the Wizards couldn't keep up with Colorado. Forward Quemont Greer led Bismarck with 40 points and seven offensive rebounds to go with 25 points from James Maye. Dontell Jefferson added 18, while Kevin Lyde scored 13.
