Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

BINGHAMTON, NY - Ronny Mauricio hit his first homer as a member of the Binghamton Rumble Ponies but it was Reading who prevailed 5-2 on Saturday night at Mirabito Stadium. Reading has taken three of the first four games of the series.

After the Ponies took a 1-0 lead on a wild pitch in the second, the Fightins scored five unanswered runs. In the second, Simon Muzziotti hit a two-run double that put Reading on top 2-1. In the fifth, Muzziotti drove in another run with an RBI single to make it 3-1. The next batter Logan O'Hoppe hit another RBI single against Ponies starter Oscar De La Cruz as part of a three-run frame that made it 5-1 Reading.

That would remain the score until Mauricio hit a home run over the right field wall to lead off the bottom of the sixth to make it a 5-2 game, but Binghamton would not get any closer.

De La Cruz (1-5) takes the loss allowing four earned runs on seven hits over four and a third innings. Reading starter David Paulino (1-0) gets the win allowing one earned run and three hits over six innings. Zach Warren retired the side in order in the ninth to earn his third save of the year.

Mitch Ragan, Franklin Parra, and Luc Rennie combined for four and two thirds of scoreless relief. The Rumble Ponies bullpen has allowed just one run over 19 and two thirds innings this series.

The two teams will close out the regular season on Sunday night with first pitch at 6:35 PM for Fan Appreciation Night.

POSTGAME NOTES: David Wright, Jay Payton, Preston Wilson, and Bill Terlecky were inducted into the Binghamton Baseball Shrine before the game...Muzziotti now has six RBI this series after being promoted to Double-A.
