Chico Outlaws News Release

Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii - Pat Rose delivered a pinch hit walk-off RBI single to give Maui a ten-inning 4-3 victory over the Chico Outlaws on Thursday night at Iron Maehara Stadium.

Each team scored in the first inning. Chris Lubanski delivered a two-out RBI double for Chico and Maui's run scored on a Mitch Einertson fielders choice.

Both teams scored again in the sixth. Adam Buschini came in for the Outlaws on an error by Maui first baseman Stephen Pearson. A bases loaded walk by Chico relief pitcher David Roberts brought in the second run for the Na Koa Ikaika.

Chico took the lead 3-2 in the seventh on a Chris Lubanski sacrifice fly. In the ninth, with Ryan Riddle on for the save, Maui put runners on first and second with one out. Stephen Pearson hit a ground ball to first, Brian McFall got the force out at second, but the relay throw from shortstop Jay Pecci was high and over the head of McFall, which allowed the tying run to score.

Riddle remained on for the tenth, and surrendered the game winning single to Rose with two out in the inning and a runner at second. Rose had been out since Maui's second game after getting hit in the ribs by a pitch.

Chico wasted a solid start by Alex Foltz. Scheduled starter Jim Paduch was signed earlier in the day by Tampa Bay, so Chico had to scramble leading up to game time. Foltz went five strong innings, allowing four hits and only one run. He walked three and struck out three. Maui started Kevin Altman lasted five and two-thirds, surrendering four hits, two runs (one earned), with six walks and three strikeouts.

Bryan Herrera (1-1) got the win in relief, pitching two scoreless innings for Maui. Riddle (0-1) took the loss for Chico. The two teams play game two of their six-game series on Friday night at Iron Maehara Stadium. First pitch is 6:35 p.m. (9:35 Pacific) and the action can be heard on the Outlaws Baseball Network on Justin.tv.
