Edmonton, AB - Edmonton Capitals 2009 and 2010 MVP pitcher Lou Pote improved to 2-0 on the 2011 North American League season with his second straight stellar outing as the Caps crushed the Calgary Vipers 9-1 on a cold, soggy Friday night at TELUS Field.

After tossing a complete game shutout in the Caps' season opener on Sunday in Calgary, Pote continued his strong start to the year on Friday by throwing seven innings and giving up just one run on five hits while striking out seven Vipers. He also helped his own cause in the third by starting the inning off with a double, leading to a five-run Edmonton rally.

The Caps (4-2) added another run in the fourth and broke the floodgates open with three more in the fifth to go up 9-0. The Vipers (3-5) managed one run on Pote in the sixth, but that was all the offence they could generate on the night. Chad Blackwell and Bartolome Fortunato pitched scoreless eighth and ninth innings, respectively, to close out the win.

Left fielder Todd Linden and first baseman Brent Metheny were the Caps' key contributors at the plate. Linden, who moved to the lead-off spot on Friday, went 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored, while the former Viper Metheny went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI and a run scored. Shortstop Enrique Cruz also knocked in a pair of runs, while Pote finished 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and one RBI.

"We've got a really strong hitting lineup, so it was a bit frustrating the last couple of games when our offence wasn't producing as much," said Linden, who has MLB experience with the San Francisco Giants and Florida Marlins. "Hitting is contagious, and when Lou hit that double in the third it just got everyone going. It was a spark for us and we'll keep building from it."

The battle of Alberta continues Saturday night with the second last game of the Caps' opening homestand. It's another 7 p.m. start at TELUS Field, and it's also the first instalment of Saturday Night Movies this season, as "For Love Of The Game" starring Lake County Fielders owner Kevin Costner will be projected on the inflatable big screen in centre field after the game.

The Capitals are the city's most affordable entertainment option in the summer featuring Edmonton's largest patio! Season seats start at less than $9 per seat. Individual game tickets start at $10 in advance and can be purchased at the Capitals Box Office (10233 - 96 Ave) during regular business hours Monday through Friday, at any Ticketmaster location, online at capsbaseball.ca or via phone at 780-414-GOAL (4625).
