Mattson, Jette Make NHL CSS Report

BLOOMINGTON, Illinois - The NHL Central Scouting Service reports the top prospects for upcoming NHL drafts and has noted two players with connections to Bloomington. The Bloomington Thunder, in connection with NHL CSS announced Tuesday morning that forward Mitchell Mattson (University of North Dakota) and affiliate prospect Tyler Jette have been named to the 'Preliminary 2015 Players to Watch' list and are on the fast track to being drafted in 2016.

The NHL CSS ranks players by a letter "rating system" in their preliminary report. An 'A' rating categorizes players as a first round selection, 'B' rating for second or third round prospects, and 'C' rating for players selected between the fourth and sixth rounds.

Mattson, 17, has been classified as a B level prospect. The Grand Rapids, MN native got his start with the Thunder at the end of the 2014-15 season playing in 13 games and scoring seven points (2g, 5a). Before making his USHL debut, Mattson finished his second season at Grand Rapids High School, where he led his team with 48 points (22g, 26a) in 25 games.

The Thunder center also played in the USA Hockey All-American Prospects game on Sept. 24 in Buffalo. Mattson was one of 42 United States prospects to compete in the game.

Also on the list for the Thunder is affiliate prospect Tyler Jette, a defenseman out of Farmington, MN. He was selected in Phase II of the 2014 USHL Draft. Jette was the top scoring defenseman for his team, Farmington High School, with 28 points (10g, 18a) in 25 games played. He was selected for the USA Hockey Select 17 Camp.

Jette stands at 6-foot-3, 205 lbs. as a 17-year-old defenseman for the Tigers and is entering his senior year. Over two seasons with Farmington, Jette has netted 17 goals and 29 assists from the blue line.

The USHL earned the most recognition on the report, as 54 players are currently rostered in the league and 11 other alumni have also been tabbed as players to watch. Of those 11 players, six are in college hockey and 50 of the 54 overall have made college commitments. The USHL turned in the best draft of any other league in 2015 as 37 players and 10 alumni were selected.

Mattson and the Thunder are back in action on the road Friday and Saturday against the Youngstown Phantoms. The Thunder are 1-1-0 on the season and will face the reigning Anderson Cup champions. Games start at 6 p.m. CST and will be broadcast live on http://portal.stretchinternet.com/wjbc/.
