Matt Nevarez Purchased by Rays

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts learned Friday that closer Matt Nevarez has been purchased by the Tampa Bay Rays' organization.

Nevarez is 3-2 with seven saves and a 3.08 ERA in 25 relief appearances this season. In 26.1 innings, Nevarez has allowed just 17 base hits, while striking out 45. The Mission Hills, CA native has struck out the side five different times. From May 20th through July 12th, Nevarez allowed just one earned run over a span of 23.0 innings in which he struck out 38. The Rays become Nevarez's third Major League organization. The 25-year-old was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 10th round in 2005, and later played in the Houston Astros' farm system.

The Wingnuts have activated right-handed pitcher Andrew Aizenstadt from the 7-Day Disabled List. Infielder Blake Bergeron has been placed on the 7-Day Disabled List.

Wichita's active roster currently stands at 21, with 10 pitchers and 11 position players.
