Matrix roster starting to take form

October 4, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Montreal Royal News Release

Montreal, Canada. The ABA Montreal Matrix are actively preparing for the upcoming season. Following a tryout camp held last weekend at Cegep Rosemont, Matrix head coach Nevio Marzinotto and his assistant coach Paul Stephens invited eight recruits to take part in the team's training camp where they will tryo to earn a spot on the Matrix roster.

Matrix GM Ocelito "Tito" Destin is very enthusiastic about how his team is shaping up for the upcoming season. Not only was he impressed to see so many talented players at the tryout camp, but he is also excited that many key players from last season will be wearing Matrix colors again this year. Team captain Bobby Miller plus Jason J. Brade, Shawn "Smoke" Browne and Denberky Reid signed new contracts this off season. Mr. Destin is continuing to negotiate with other veterans who are currently unsigned.

Perhaps the highlight of this year's tryout camp was the signing of Marco Volcy (6-7, 205) who will certainly add a new dimension to the team. Former star player at Montmorency Cegep, Volcy was offered a scholarship to play for the University of Northern Michigan where he also earned a degree in media production and technology. Back in Montreal, with a degree in hand, Volcy was hired by Gameloft, an international video games company.

"To be honest, I am realizing my childhood dream by playing for a professional basketball team in my hometown. When I was a kid, I would go to Dragons games and would dream of playing for them one day. Now, the Dragons are dead, but the Matrix has taken their place and I couldn't be happier. A lot of people thought I could play professionally in Europe, but I wasn't interested in going overseas. I am proud and excited to be a member of the Montreal Matrix," Volcy said.

Matrix players and management will be introduced at a press conference to be held during the week of October 23rd. Until then, basketball fans in Montreal will have the chance to meet Matrix players at various community events.
