Omaha, NE - Todd Mathews recorded 26 saves through regulation and overtime and denied all five Tri-City attempts in the shootout as the Omaha Lancers outlasted the Storm 2-1 Friday evening at the Omaha Civic Auditorium. With the win, the Lancers improved to 19-10-4 on the year and have now won three consecutive games.

Neither side was able to find the back of the net in the opening period despite a combined 19 shots on goal. Omaha goaltender Todd Mathews turned aside all seven Storm shots he faced in period one while Tri-City netminder Christopher Holden answered the 12 Lancers shots he saw in the first frame.

The scoreless tie remained through the second period as well as 19 total shots in the middle frame couldn't solve the respective netminders either. Mathews had the answer for Tri-City's nine second period shots while Holden turned aside the 10 Lancers shots on goal he faced in the second stanza.

Omaha finally broke the scoreless deadlock 5:26 into the final period of regulation when, just four seconds into the power play, Anthony Hamburg fired a bullet past Holden putting the Lancers in front 1-0. Matt Tabrum earned the only assist on the man-advantage tally, which marked the 19th time in 33 games this season that Omaha has netted the game's opening goal. Tri-City bounced right back though and evened the game a little over three minutes later when Zack Rall's one-timer from the left point found daylight past Mathews evening the game at one apiece. Nick Lappin and Brian Ward assisted on the five-on-five marker scored 8:29 into the third period.

The 1-1 contest remained through the close of regulation and through overtime sending the game to a shootout. Mike Chiasson netted the only goal in the shootout while Mathews turned aside all five Tri-City attempts sealing the win for the Lancers.

Mathews improved to 9-5-3 on the year with the win after turning aside 26 of Tri-City's 27 total shots. Meanwhile, Holden suffered the shootout defeat despite 31 saves on 32 Omaha shots.

The Lancers are back in action tomorrow evening when they head to the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City to battle the Musketeers.
