Today, Joe Mather climbed the minor league ranks as he is now member of the Peoria Chiefs (Midwest League Class A). This season, Mather has appeared in two games for the Cardinals, going 1-for-8 (.125) with 2 stolen bases in early season action. Mather spent the 2001 and 2002 seasons with Johnson City and then all of the 2003 season with the Cardinals. Last season, he ranked 2nd on the club with 65 games played. In 2002 he led the Johnson City Cardinals (Appalachian League Rookie) with 8 home runs and was 2nd on the team in at bats, runs, hits, RBI, walks and stolen bases. In other transactions, the St. Louis organization released New Jersey players Tee Thomas and Tanner Wootan.
The Cardinals travel to Batavia (Philadelphia Phillies) for a three-game set with the Muckdogs beginning on Wednesday. They are back in action at Skylands Park beginning on Saturday, June 26 at 5:00 pm when the Cards open a three-game series with Auburn (Toronto Blue Jays). On Saturday, it is Disability Awareness Day sponsored by D.A.W.N. and there will be a calendar giveaway. Post game is the family catch on the field. Sunday, Tri-Co Federal Credit Union and The Daily Record sponsor a seat cushion giveaway, there is a special welcome to St. Claires Hospital Employees and the post game promotion is kids race around the bases. On Monday, kids eat free sponsored by KFC and the New Jersey Herald.
