WEEKLY WRAP-UP: The Cardinals opened the 2004 season by taking a winning their first two games against the Hudson Valley Renegades (Tampa Bay Devil Rays), then dropping the series finale before being swept in a two-game set by the Aberdeen Ironbirds (Baltimore Orioles)...They are currently 2-3 on the season and in 4th place of the McNamara Division of the New York-Penn League.

BIRDS WITH BATS: The Cardinals offense ranks 10th in the league with a .224 team batting average...1B Casey Grimm has hit safely in each of the three games that he has played this season...In each of his last two games, Grimm has recorded two hits...He is currently batting .455 (5-for-11) with 2 RBI...2B Jarrett Hoffpauir has recorded two multi-hit games already this season...In his professional debut on June 19 at Hudson Valley, Hoffpauir was 3-for-4 with a double and a home run...He has already hit 2 home runs in 15 at-bats this season...His .400 (6-for-15) batting average ranks 7th in the league, he is 2nd with a .933 slugging percentage, 3rd with 4 extra base hits and 4th with 6 runs scored...1B Levi Webber ranks 2nd in the league with 7 runs scored...OF Sean Dobson batted .429 (3-for-7) with 1 RBI in the series against Aberdeen... C Cody Palmer was 3-for-7 (.429) with 2 doubles and 1 RBI against Hudson Valley.

CARDINALS HURLERS: The Cardinals pitching staff ranks 7th in the league with a 3.80 ERA...The team is 2nd in the league with 47 strikeouts...RHP Derek Roper set a single-game franchise record by striking out 13 batters in a 3-1 win over Hudson Valley on Saturday, June 19...He broke the previous record of 12 that was held by Rhett Parrott (8/24/01 at Batavia) and Brian Flynn (8/30/02 vs Brooklyn)...In his record-breaking start, Roper went 5 IP, allowing 2 hits and 1 run while facing only 17 batters...RHP Miguel Aguero picked up the win on opening day after going 7 strong innings, allowing 1 run on 5 hits while striking out 9...RHP Chris Della Rocco made two appearances this week, pitching 3 perfect innings...RHP Jaymie Torres also made two scoreless appearances this week, pitching 3 innings and allowing just 1 hit while recording 2 strike outs.

THE WEEK AHEAD: The Cardinals begin a three game series at Batavia (Philadelphia Phillies) tonight and then return home for a three game set with Auburn (Toronto Blue Jays) beginning on Saturday, June 26 at 5:00 pm.
