
Mateo Lifts Mets Past Cardinals 4-0

Luis Mateo struck out nine in 6 2/3 scoreless innings in his Florida State League debut as the Mets cruised past the Palm Beach Cardinals 4-0 to win their fifth straight game .
Mateo allowed just four hits and issued two walks. Randy Fontanez tossed a scoreless inning in relief. T.J. Chism recorded the final four outs for his first save of the season. Chism struck out Cody Stanley looking with the bases loaded to escape a jam in the eighth inning.
The Mets opened the scoring in the fourth inning as Dustin Lawely doubled and would later come around to score on a fielding error. The Mets pulled away with five consecutive singles in a three-run sixth. Charley Thurber drilled a bases loaded, two-run single to left center while Travis Taijeron added an RBI single.
The Mets visit the Palm Beach Cardinals on Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. at Roger Dean Stadium. Hansel Robles is the scheduled starter for the Mets.
