St. Louis City SC 2 News Release

St Louis CITY2 faces Portland Timbers2 on Sunday afternoon at Providence Park for the final regular season match of the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro campaign. The match kicks off at 3:00 p.m. CT and will be streamed live on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.

CITY2 hosted their final regular season home match last Sunday against LAFC2, tying 1-1 in regulation but coming out on top in the ensuing shootout, winning 4-2. Mykhi Joyner scored from the penalty spot in the final minute of second half stoppage time to tie it at one goal apiece. Christian Olivares came up huge in the shootout, making one save while Emil Jääskeläinen scored the winning kick to give CITY2 the extra two points. Additionally, CITY2 clinched the number one seed in MLS NEXT Pro, guaranteeing all four rounds of playoffs to be played at Energizer Park this year, should the team keep advancing.

Last Sunday's match improved CITY2's record at home to 8-1-5, with the team going unbeaten at home in their last eleven games. At Energizer Park this season, the team scored 29 goals while conceding 11. Success at home has also translated into success on the road, with the squad posting a 9-3-1 record compared to an 8-5-1 record in 2024. CITY2 has not lost a game on the road this season since May 11.

CITY2 will play Portland for the final time this season with the teams last facing each other back on May 23 at Energizer Park. The match saw CITY2 win decisively 6-3 and featured four goals scored by Mykhi Joyner while Brendan McSorley also scored a brace. Joyner's four goals were the first time in club history that a player has tallied four goals in a single match. McSorley's brace was his third of his professional career.

Timbers2 has officially been eliminated from playoff contention but enter Sunday's contest winners of their last match against Austin FC II. Timbers2 sit in 11th place in the Western Conference with a 9-12-6 record. At Providence Park, Portland has won five matches in 2025. Forward Gage Guerra leads Portland in goals scored with 11 while fellow forward Kyle Linhares has five assists.
