Sporting KC II Concludes 2025 MLS NEXT Pro Season with Road Match against MNUFC 2

Sporting Kansas City II News Release
Sporting Kansas City II will put a bow on the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro season on Sunday when they face MNUFC 2 at National Sports Center Stadium in Blaine, Minnesota. The game will kick off alongside all other Western Conference Decision Day games at 3 p.m. CT on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
The two sides last met on August 8th in Rochester, Minnesota, and played in a thrilling contest that came down to the final minutes. Thanks to a second-half brace from Medgy Alexandre, SKC II took a 2-1 lead into the 70th minute before late goals from Momoh Kamara and Luke Hille lifted the Loons past SKC II. When the two teams met in Kansas City earlier in the season, MNUFC also claimed all three points.
Sporting KC II has earned three results in their last four matches. All three of those games have seen SKC II score goals after the 85th minute. Interim head coach Ike Opara and his group will look to continue this form and end the season on a positive note.
This season, five Sporting KC Academy products who signed pro deals with SKC II have been key contributors. Cielo Tschantret has captained the team in all but one game this season and has three goals. Shane Donovan has played on all three lines in 2025, ranks fourth in minutes played (2077) and has tallied two assists.
Goalkeeper Jacob Molinaro has started 12 matches, made 43 saves and earned six results. Johann Ortiz leads the team in assists with four, and Nati Clarke has one goal and two assists while appearing in every match so far.
Returning pros Maouloune Goumballe and Alexandre have been mainstays again for SKC II in 2025, following up on successful 2024 seasons. Goumballe has started every game, the only SKC II player to do so, and has five goals and three assists. Alexandre leads the team in goals with eight.
Newcomer Pierre Lurot has been a steady centerback and the anchor to the backline in 25 appearances. He scored his first professional goal in a draw at North Texas SC in September. Midseason acquisition Blaine Mabie has started nine of 11 appearances, scored twice and added an assist.
The SKC Academy has also provided several amateur players who have not backed down to the challenges of MLS NEXT Pro. Midfielder Carter Derksen leads all SKC Academy amateurs in appearances (22), starts (10), goals (two) and minutes played (903). Zane Wantland has been pivotal to Opara's midfield, playing on the wing in five starts.
Fourteen-year-old Zamir Loyo Reynaga made his professional debut in SKC II's last match, becoming the youngest player to ever appear in an SKC II match since the team was founded in 2016, surpassing Homegrown defender Ian James.
Minnesota has punched their ticket to the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro Playoffs and cannot move up in seeding enough to earn a home playoff match. Their fate will be decided by one of the top four seeds in the MLS NEXT Pro's exhilarating Pick Your Opponent format. Jeremy Hall's squad is highlighted by Hille, who scored the game-winner against SKC II back in August. He has 10 goals on the season in 17 starts.
Following Decision Day, SKC II will begin making their roster decisions for the 2026 MLS NEXT Pro season. Fans can stay up-to-date with all the team's moves by following the club on X, Instagram, and Facebook, or by visiting SportingKC.com/SKCII.
