Sacramento Republic FC News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - Republic FC kick off a two-game road stand in the Pacific Northwest with a matchup against Portland Timbers 2 on Wednesday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the match will be broadcast live on KQCA My58, Estrella TV 58.3 and ESPN+.
The midweek contest will be the eighth time the two sides face off in USL play since 2015, with Republic FC holding a 4-3-0 (W-L-D) record against T2 and a 12-5 goal differential.
Republic FC enter the match after an 89th minute equalizer from second-half substitute Luis Espino rescued a point for the club in their 1-1 draw against Tulsa Roughnecks FC this past Saturday. The come-from-behind home draw was the fourth time this year Republic FC have conceded first, but still produced a result of either a win or draw. The draw against Tulsa also preserved Republic FC's unbeaten streak to start the 2018 USL season, moving their record to 4-0-3. Espino's goal was his first of the year and Villyan Bijev recorded the assist to add to his team-leading tally of two on the season. Bijev will be playing in Portland for the first time since his move from T2 to Republic FC during the 2017 USL season.
Timbers 2 (3-3-1) come into the match with Republic FC following a disappointing home loss to Reno 1868 FC on April 21. Victor Arboleda scored his team-leading third goal of the season in the 38th minute to give T2 an early lead. Reno would answer with two goals from USL Player of the Week Danny Musovski, with the match winner coming in the 89th minute. T2 is led by Cameron Knowles, who is in his first year as head coach after serving as an assistant for Portland's MLS side. Knowles was a three-time USL First Team selection during his playing days. Arboleda leads the attack for T2 along with Jeremy Ebobisse and are anchored on defense by Modou Jadama and Josh Phillips.
Republic FC will host two official watch parties at Grist Beer Hall (Folsom) and Three Mile Brewing (Davis).
