HARRISON, N.J. (March 21, 2015) - The New York Red Bulls open the home portion of the 2015 schedule on Sunday with a contest against rival D.C. United. First kick is set for 5:00 p.m. ET at Red Bull Arena (TV: ESPN2, ESPN Deportes).
The Red Bulls ended D.C. United's season in 2014, downing their long-time rivals in a home-and-home series in the semifinals of the MLS Eastern Conference Playoffs. The Red Bulls jumped out to a 2-0 lead at home in leg one, and advanced on aggregate, 3-2, after scoring the all-important away goal in a 2-1 loss at RFK Stadium.
D.C. took the regular season series, 2-1-0. The home team won all five meetings in 2014. New York's win came on September 10, when Lloyd Sam provided 90th minute heroics for a 1-0 victory.
Head coach Jesse Marsch and key off-season acquisition Sacha Kljestan will make their Red Bull Arena debuts. Dax McCarty will captain the side for the first time at home, while 2014 MLS Golden Boot winner Bradley Wright-Phillips looks to open his 2015 account in front of the New York faithful.
