Philadelphia Union News Release
CHESTER, Pa. - The Philadelphia Union will travel to Columbus, Ohio to take on Crew SC Saturday night with kick-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The match will be broadcast live on the Live Well Network with JP Dellacamera and Peter Pappas on the call.
The Union are 4-10-1 all-time against Columbus and 0-8-1 all-time at Mapfre Stadium, but have never been shut out in 15 career meetings. The clubs have become quite familiar foes lately, playing each other three times during the MLS Regular Season in each of the past two years and in three of the last four years. That trend will continue this year as the Union will travel to Columbus again on Aug. 24. They will host Crew SC on June 1.
The Union lost their 2016 season opener to FC Dallas, 2-0. Goalkeeper Andre Blake made eight saves - tied with Evan Bush for the lead league. The eight saves would have set a career-high and tied a club franchise-high had Blake not broken the record last year with 10 against New England.
Columbus, the defending Eastern Conference champions, also lost their 2016 opener in a rematch of the 2015 MLS Cup. In similar fashion, Crew SC lost to Portland Timbers 2-1. Columbus duplicated their starting lineup from the final in 2015 with the lone exception of Hector Jimenez starting in place of Justin Meram.
The Union will return to Talen Energy Stadium next weekend for their home opener on March 20 against New England Revolution.
