New York Red Bulls News Release
HARRISON, N.J. - Familiar foes face off in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 as the New York Red Bulls travel to Chester, Pennsylvania to play the Philadelphia Union on Saturday at Talen Energy Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET with coverage on NewYorkRedBulls.com and New York Red Bulls Radio in English and Spanish on TuneIn.
New York Red Bulls Radio goes live at 6:30 p.m. ET with triHonda Countdown to Kickoff, hosted by Matt Harmon and Steve Jolley. Ernesto Motta will have the Spanish play-by-play responsibilities, beginning at 7 p.m.
New York opened this season's U.S. Open Cup run similarly to last season as they blanked rival NYCFC in the Fourth Round, 4-0, at Red Bull Arena. The Red Bulls found their first two goals from Vincent Bezecourt and Aaron Long before watching Daniel Royer tally two goals in a two-minute span to put the match away. Ryan Meara once again put together a strong Open Cup performance in net, tallying four saves for his 12th career clean sheet.
New York's depth will have its final test during a five-match stretch that spanned 15 days on Saturday. Prior to Saturday's match, the Red Bulls have managed to balance time amongst players and go 2-1-1 across all competitions. During that four games in a 12 day stretch, New York used four different Starting XIs and 20 different starters. The Red Bulls outscored their opponents, 8-4, and had five different goal scorers.
Philadelphia advanced with a 5-0 rout of the Richmond Kickers at Talen Energy Stadium. The Union had five different goal scorers in the first minutes and saw goalkeeper John McCarthy post a shutout with one save. The Union own the lone victory over the Red Bulls in regulation in previous Open Cup matches. Philadelphia earned a 2-1 victory on Jun 29, 2016 at Talen Energy Stadium.
New York welcomes FC Dallas to Red Bull Arena on Saturday, June 23. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. ET with coverage on UniMas and New York Red Bulls Radio in English and Spanish on TuneIn.
