FC Dallas visits Sporting Kansas City on Saturday, June 16 in a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 matchup at Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City, KS. FC Dallas returns to MLS play on Saturday June 23 against the New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ on Saturday, June 23 in a match you can watch on TXA21.

Let's Do This Again
Saturday's match is a rematch of the last year's Open Cup Quarterfinal. The match, which was also played at Children's Mercy Park, saw three red cards and three goals. Sporting played a man down for the final 105 minutes while FC Dallas ended with nine men on the field after sending off Maxi Urruti and Javier Morales in extra time. SKC won 3-0 after scoring three goals in extra time.
FCD/SKC Open Cup History
FC Dallas and Sporting Kansas City have met three previous times in Open Cup play with Dallas going 0-3. FCD has been outscored 13-2 in those three matches. None of those matches have been played in DFW. They have all been played in the Kansas City area.
In the Quarterfinals of the 2004 Open Cup, the then Dallas Burn lost 4-0 to the then Kansas City Wizards.
In the 2015 Round of 16, Sporting KC posted a 6-2 win over FCD.
In the 2017 Quarterfinals, SKC won 3-0 in extra time.
U.S. Open Cup History
Dallas is 34-19-6 in U.S. Open Cup play since 1996 and 13-2-2 in the Round of 16. FC Dallas won the tournament in 2016 and in 1997. Seven current FC Dallas players have scored in U.S. Open Cup play:

Sporting Kansas City won the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open cup in 2017, 2015, 2012 and 2004. SKC is tied with the Chicago Fire and Seattle Sounders for the most USOC titles among MLS teams. Current Kansas City head coach Peter Vermes has led the team to three Open Cup championships over the last six seasons, with victories in 2012, 2015 and 2017.
What Is The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup?
The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is the United States' oldest ongoing soccer competition. The tournament, which began in 1914, features 97 clubs from Major League Soccer's U.S. teams, the USL and amateur clubs that qualified in earlier rounds of the tournament. The champion earns a total of $300,000 in prize money and qualifies for the group stage of Concacaf Champions League.
