Columbus Crew SC News Release
COLUMBUS - The Columbus Crew (3-2-3, 12 points) heads to Houston for its second road test in four days with a battle against the Houston Dynamo (3-4-2, 11 points) at BBVA Compass Stadium tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET. Time Warner Cable SportsChannel is televising the game, with Dwight Burgess and Chris Doran on the call. Neil Sika is set to describe the action for 95.5 The Game, with Carlos Cordova and Juan Valladares behind the microphone for La Mega 103.1 FM.
Tonight's match marks the first of three meetings between the Crew and the Dynamo in 2014. The Black & Gold went 1-1-1 against Houston during the 2013 season, including a 2-0 win on September 4 and a 1-1 draw on June 1 at Crew Stadium. Columbus fell short in the only match at BBVA Compass Stadium in 2013 with a 3-1 loss on August 3. This year, the clubs square-off on August 23 at Crew Stadium before a return trip to Houston on September 13.
The Crew is looking for its first win at BBVA Compass Stadium, which opened in 2012. The last victory for the Black & Gold in Houston came on June 18, 2011 when the Crew defeated the Dynamo 2-0 at Robertson Stadium.
The midweek match is the 18th overall regular-season clash between the two teams dating back to 2006 and the Crew holds the advantage in the all-time series with a record of 5-3-9. The Crew is set to be without midfielder and Vice Captain Wil Trapp, who is serving a mandatory one-match suspension for a red card issued in Sunday's loss at Sporting Kansas City.
Tonight's tilt in Houston completes the Crew's two-match road trip. The Black & Gold return to Crew Stadium for a Saturday home contest on Saturday against Vancouver Whitecaps FC (7:30 p.m. ET / Time Warner Cable SportsChannel).
