
Marvin Chávez chosen for Honduras preliminary squad

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Monday, May 5, 2014) - Colorado Rapids winger Marvin Chávez has been selected to the preliminary Honduras National Team roster for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, and will join the team in training starting May 12 in Miami. Chavez, who was acquired by the Rapids via trade in the offseason, is one of 23 players called into camp by head coach Luis Fernando Suárez.
"This is a great accomplishment for Marvin and is a result of his hard work and strong performances at the club and international level over the last several years," said Paul Bravo, the Rapids VP of Soccer Operations. "We are thrilled for Marvin that he has this opportunity and wish him the best with Honduras, both in the next few weeks of camp and in the tournament in Brazil."
Chávez has made 37 appearances for Honduras, including qualifying matches for the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups as well as the 2009 and 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cups, scoring four goals in total. His most recent appearance with Honduras was on November 19, when he started in the 2-2 draw with Ecuador. He was acquired by the Rapids in an offseason trade with the San Jose Earthquakes, and has played a total of 98 MLS matches (78 starts) since joining the league with Dallas in late 2009, scoring 12 goals and adding 20 assists.
The Rapids travel to face San Jose this Wednesday, May 7 at 8:30 p.m. MT (7:30 p.m. PT) at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., with a live broadcast featuring Richard Fleming and Marcelo Balboa on Altitude, with coverage starting at 8 p.m. MT. Colorado returns to Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Sunday, May 11 to face Chivas USA, with tickets still available at www.ColoradoRapids.com or 303-825-GOAL.
