Lancaster Stormers News Release

The flag at Bernie Robbins Stadium was pointing out to right field, favoring the Barnstormers, a rare event at the home of the Atlantic City Surf. However, the favorable weather conditions were not enough as Raul Marval and Ozzie Timmons still homered to left in a 9-3 Atlantic City win over Lancaster in front of 4,790 Friday evening.

With the loss, the Barnstormers (11-8) had their lead cut to two in the Southern race. Atlantic City (8-12) climbed to within 3 ? of the top.

After Lance Burkhart had just tied the game, 2-2, with an opposite field homer, his 10th long ball of the season, in the top of the fifth, the Surf surged back.

One out into the inning, Danny Gonzalez mishandled a ground ball by Matt Imwalle. Demetrius Heath pushed a bunt down the first base line, and the throw by Eric Ackerman (3-3) hit him in the back as runners reached first and second. Marval followed with his blast, #11 on the season, down the line in left, putting the Surf ahead to stay, 5-2.

Ackerman left following a walk to Timmons. Joe Jiannetti grounded a single to left off Cam Smith. Both runners moved ahead on a passed ball. Smith struck out Jason Torres and also fanned Todd Leathers, but the third strike to Leathers eluded Burkhart, who then threw wide of first, pulling Jeremy Todd off the bag as the fourth run of the inning scored. Jiannetti strode across on the second passed ball of the frame.

The Surf scored a two-out run in the seventh when Andy Zwirchitz allowed a single to Leathers and walked Mel Rosario. Clyde Williams greeted Ross Peeples with a roller up the middle for an RBI single.

Gonzalez singled home a run in the eighth, and Jiannetti doubled in a run in the bottom of the inning to cap the scoring.

Leo Estrella (1-1), making his first start with the Surf after 14 relief appearances, allowed four hits in six innings while walking only one and whiffing six.
