FLORENCE, Ky - Four days after it was announced that Jose Brizuela had signed with the New York Mets organization, the Florence Freedom, presented by Titan Mechanical solutions, announced pitchers Marty Anderson and Jameson McGrane have signed contracts with the Miami Marlins.

This will be Anderson's second stint in affiliated baseball. The left-hander signed with the New York Mets organization in 2017 and was assigned to the Brooklyn Cyclones (Single-A short season) before being promoted to the Columbia Fireflies (Single-A full season). He made seven starts in Columbia, and struck out 36 batters over 31.1 innings. With the Freedom in 2018, Anderson appeared in nine games and made three starts. He posted a 2.45 ERA over 25.2 innings, and struck out 33 batters.

"We were told to start getting Marty innings out of the bullpen to get him another shot at affiliated baseball, so we did just that, and it paid off," said Freedom manager Dennis Pelfrey. He continued, "Marty has great stuff as a pitcher and can get any hitter out. He has come a long way since 2015. We are very happy for him, and he will be tough to replace."

McGrane carved out a role in the back of the Freedom bullpen and did not allow an earned run in nine appearances. The power right-hander earned a spot on the team after a strong showing at the Frontier League Tryout Camp and Draft, where he was selected by Florence in the second round. McGrane threw 9.1 innings, surrendered two hits and fanned 19 batters, while walked four.

"Jameson is a guy I had in the California Winter League in 2016. We knew he had the stuff to be very good, and gave him some things mechanically to work on, and he did just that. We took him out of the Frontier League draft this year and never looked back," said Pelfrey. "He had positioned himself as our closer, and the Marlins took note. Great kid and deserves this opportunity, we will miss both guys, but now it's time for some others to step up."

In total, the Freedom have now sent 40 players to affiliated baseball, including seven over the past two seasons.

The Florence Freedom are members of the Independent Frontier League and play all home games at UC Health Stadium located at 7950 Freedom Wayin Florence, KY. The Freedom can be found online at florencefreedom.com, or by phone at (859) 594-4487.
