Potomac Nationals News Release

WOODBRIDGE, Va. - The Potomac Nationals announced today that right-handed reliever Carlos Martinez has been promoted to the Double-A Harrisburg Senators of the Eastern League. In addition to the move, the P-Nats have recalled outfielder Aaron Seuss from Low-A Hagerstown to take the roster spot vacated by Martinez.

The right-hander Martinez, a native of Cotui, Dominican Republic, had been a reliable arm for manager Trent Jewett coming out of the bullpen. He could fill a variety of roles from setup man to long reliever to even starter as Jewett called Martinez's number to toe the rubber at both the beginning and ending of ballgames.

On the year, Martinez sported a 1-1 record with a 4.21 ERA. He led the team in ground ball/fly ball ratio at 2.26 as he used a heavy two-seam fastball to make opposing hitters pound the ball into the ground.

He follows former P-Nat Erik Arnesen to Harrisburg, who was promoted May 11 to join the Senators starting rotation.

Aaron Seuss began the 2009 campaign with Potomac before becoming part of a numbers crunch with the emergence of outfielders Francisco Plasencia and Jesus Valdez. He was re-assigned to Low-A Hagerstown on May 1, hitting .222 in 20 games for the Suns. Last season, Seuss slugged 14 home runs between Hagerstown and Potomac, knocking in 70 runs and batting .274.

The P-Nats welcome the K-Tribe to the Pfitz for the first time this year, sure to be music to Marrero's ears, before heading back on the road Friday for another rumble with Lynchburg.
