Martinez Named Marlins Hitter of the Month

JACKSONVILLE, FL - Suns shortstop Osvaldo Martinez was named Florida Marlins Minor League Hitter of the Month for May, the Marlins announced on June 7.

Martinez hit .365 in 28 games in May for the Suns, scoring 25 runs on 38 hits, including four doubles and a pair of home runs. He stole five bases and collected 13 RBI. Martinez drew 17 walks against 15 strikeouts, finishing with a .468 OBP and .462 SLG.

Martinez, the Marlins' 11th Round pick from the 2006 Draft from Carolina, Puerto Rico, helped the Suns go 17-12 in May. As of Monday, June 7, Martinez leads the Southern League in hits (71), is second in runs scored (45) and on-base percentage (.425) and is fourth in batting average (.329).
