Jaxx Extend Winning Streak to Nine on Monday

JACKSON, TENN. (JUNE 7, 2010) - The Diamond Jaxx extend their winning streak to nine straight on Monday night with a 4-1 victory over the Mississippi Braves at Pringles Park. The Jaxx improve to 10 games above .500, 33-23 and the Braves fall to 25-31. The win is the third straight over Mississippi securing the series victory and the eighth in 12 chances for the Jaxx. The win also pulls the Jaxx within a ½ game out of first place, behind Tennessee in the Southern League North, with 13 games to play in the first half. The win streak is the longest for the Jaxx since 2004.

Michael Pineda (6-1) went seven innings for the fourth time this season. Pineda struck out seven and walked one on Monday and is now tied for the most wins in the Southern League with six. Pineda has gone six or more innings in nine of his 11 starts. Josh Fields earned his second straight two inning save by working a scoreless eighth and ninth inning. Fields is now tied with Anthony Varvaro for the team lead with six saves.

At the plate, Jose Yepez extended his hitting streak to 13, with an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh. Yepez was 1-for-4. Scott Savastano finished the night 2-for-4 with an RBI and Carlos Triunfel was 3-for-4. Triunfel now has six three-hit games this year. No M-Braves had multi-hit games.

The M-Braves scored their only run on an RBI groundout by Cody Johnson in the top of the second. The Braves got back-to-back singles from Mauro Gomez and Orlando Mercado to set up the RBI.

The Jaxx tied and took the lead in the bottom of the second inning with two outs. Dustin Ackley reached on a throwing error by Braves shortstop Randy Gress, extendeing the inning for Kuo Hui Lo. Lo belted a triple scoring Ackley and Scott Savastano singled in Lo to make it 2-1 Jaxx.

Alex Liddi reached on another Braves error that scored Brandon Haveman from third and made it 3-1 Diamond Jaxx after the third inning.

Jose Yepez extended his hitting streak to 13 straight with an RBI single, scoring Alex Liddi in the bottom of the seventh. The run extended the Jaxx lead to 4-1.

The Diamond Jaxx will look for their 10th straight win on Tuesday night. The Jaxx and Braves meet Tuesday night at Pringles Park, with first pitch again at 7:05. RHP Steven Hensley (6-2, 1.50) is tied for the league lead in wins and leads the Southern League in ERA. He will take the mound for the Jaxx against LHP Mike Minor (1-4, 3.68) of the Braves. Minor, the former Vanderbilt Commodore leads the minors with 91 strikeouts this year. Again, kids and seniors eat free with paid admission, presented by Nestle.
