Martinez, Garvin and McCrane Named OurSports Central UFL Players of the Week

Birmingham Stallions quarterback Adrian Martinez, Birmingham teammate defensive end Jonathan Garvin and D.C. Defenders kicker Matt McCrane were named the OurSports Central United Football League Offensive Player, Defensive Player and Unsung Hero of the Week, respectively, for the week three of the UFL season.

Martinez completed 18 of 28 passes for 334 yards and two touchdowns, while adding five runs for 44 yards and another score in the Stallions' 33-14 victory over the Memphis Showboats. His favorite target, Deon Cain, caught seven of his passes for 144 yards.

Martinez played college football at Nebraska for four seasons from 2018 until 2021 before finishing at Kansas State. For his career, Martinez passed for 9,752 yards, 51 touchdowns and 31 interceptions and added 2,928 rushing yards and 45 TDs. Martinez signed with the Stallions on December 24, 2023.

Martinez's 11-yard rushing touchdown put the game out of reach.

Honorable mention goes to Michigan Panthers quarterback E. J. Perry who completed 16 of 19 passes for 208 yards and one score plus contributed 60 yards rushing and two touchdowns in the Panthers' 34-20 defeat of the Houston Roughnecks.

Defensively, Garvin finished with two sacks and one forced fumble, spearheading a dominant effort by the Stallions defense.

Garvin played college football at Miami and was selected in the seventh round of he 2020 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers. He signed with the Stallions on March 14th.

Defensive tackle Carlos Davis earned honorable mention with three sacks.

All told, Birmingham collected eight sacks:

McCrane connected on a game winning, 49-yard field goal as time expired in the Defenders' come-from-behind, 29-28 victory over the Arlington Renegades. McCrane kept D.C. close, connecting on 58 and 54-yard kicks during the game as well.

McCrane played college football at Kanas State. In 2018 he played with three NFL teams: the Arizona Cardinals, Oakland Raiders and the Pittsburgh Steelers. In 2020 he played for the XFL's New York Guardians before signing with the Defenders on January 22, 2024.

His game-winning kick improved the Defenders' record to 2-1 on the United Football League season.
