St. Louis Battlehawks running back Mateo Durant, Birmingham Stallions defensive end Taco Charlton and San Antonio Brahmas tight end Cody Latimer were named the OurSports Central United Football League Offensive Player, Defensive Player and Unsung Hero of the Week, respectively, for the Week Two of the UFL season.
Durant carried the ball 14 times for 104 yards and one rushing touchdown, and added one reception for five yards in the Battlehawks' 27-24 victory over the Arlington Renegades. His longest run went for 41 yards.
Durant, in his second season with St. Louis, played college football at Duke.
His one-yard rushing touchdown gave the Battlehawks a second-quarter lead:
Honorable mention goes to Durant's teammate, wide receiver Marcell Ateman who caught four passes for 114 yards and two touchdowns.
Defensively, Charlton finished with three sacks in the Stallions' 20-13 victory over the Michigan Panthers.
Charlton played at Michigan where he accumulated 10 sacks during his senior season. He was selected in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft, 28th overall, by the Dallas Cowboys. He also spent time with the Miami Dolphins, Kansas City Chiefs, Pittsburgh Steelers and Chicago Bears. On March 19th he signed with Birmingham.
Inside linebacker Frank Ginda earned honorable mention with 14 total tackles in the Panthers' loss to the Stallions. Ginda led the USFL in tackles and was USFL Defensive Player of the Year last season.
Latimer caught the game-winning, 10-yard reception from Chase Garbers with three seconds left in the Brahmas' wild 20-19 come-from-victory over the Memphis Showboats.
A 2014 second round pick by the Denver Broncos, Latimer was a member of their Super Bowl 50 winning team before playing with the New York Giants in 2018 and 2019. In 2023 he joined the XFL's Orlando Guardians before he was selected by the Brahmas in the 2024 UFL dispersal draft.
The game-winning reception by Latimer capped a 20-3 rally in the fourth quarter, improving the Brahmas to 2-0 on the UFL season.
