CLEARWATER, Fla. - Kyle Martin blasted two home runs to lead the Threshers offense on Monday, as Clearwater pounded out a season-high five home runs in a 9-3 victory over the Palm Beach Cardinals at Bright House Field.

Clearwater (27-17) kept pace with the Tampa Yankees in the Florida State League North, as the Threshers remain a half-game out of first place.

Martin's two homers move him into a tie for second-most in the FSL, and the multi-homer game was the first for a Thresher this year.

Clearwater grabbed an advantage in the second inning and would not look back from there.

Mitch Walding jumped on the first pitch he saw from Jacob Evans (2-4), blasting a two-run home run to give the Threshers the early lead. The dinger was Walding's seventh of the season, matching his career-high.

After Casey Grayson walked with the bases loaded against Matt Imhof to get the Cardinals (20-25) on the board in the top of the third, Clearwater was quick to grab that run back.

With one down, Martin struck a deep drive off the concrete wall beyond right field for a solo shot, making it 3-1 Threshers.

Gabriel Lino got in on the act an inning later, sending a line drive into the seats in front of Frenchy's Tiki Hut for his second long ball of the season.

Up 4-2 in the fifth, Martin left the yard again with a high drive to right-center for his second of the ballgame, a two-run shot to make it 6-2.

In the next frame it was Malquin Cannel's turn to loft a deep fly to left-center, a two-run homer for his second of the year. The Threshers would later add on a final tally when Grayson's error at first allowed Andrew Pullin to score the team's ninth and final run.

Yacksel Rios (1-0) picked up the win in relief, permitting one run on one hit in 2.2 innings. Imhof allowed just two runs on two hits in the start while striking out six, but issued a season-high seven walks in his four innings.

Clearwater will embark on a six-game road swing beginning on Tuesday, when the Threshers open up a three-game set at Brevard County at 6:35 p.m.
