Martin and Gonek Shortlisted by Hockey Alberta

Swift Current, SK - Hockey Alberta announced that Bronco prospects, Brycen Martin and Zack Gonek have been shortlisted for further evaluation in preparation to represent Team Alberta at the 2011 Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.

Martin was selected second overall by the Broncos in the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft. The 6'1", 160 pound defenceman completed his second season with the Calgary Bisons of the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League. In 31 games played last season, the Calgary, AB product recorded 42 points through six goals and 36 assists.

Gonek was selected 13th overall by the Broncos. The 6'1", 185 pound defenceman played 28 games with the St. Albert Gregg Distributor Sabres of the AMBHL where he notched 9 goals and 13 assists for 22 points last season. Both Martin and Gonek were listed as the AMBHL's top defenceman for the 2010-11 season.

80 players were evaluated at the Team Alberta U16 Provincial Development Camp in July in Camrose, AB. The 34 shortlisted players will now be scouted with their club teams until the final 20 player Team Alberta roster is named.
