Koper Chooses Univ. of Alberta

Former Spokane Chief forward Levko Koper will continue his hockey career while playing collegiately at the University of Alberta. The Edmonton native finished last season, his fifth and final with the Chiefs, with a career high 32 goals and 82 points. Koper had appeared in 330 games in Spokane, third all-time in franchise history, scored 97 goals and 226 points.

Koper was one of nine Canadian Hockey League players, including eight from the Western Hockey League, that committed to the University of Alberta for next season.

Acting head coach Stan Marple has brought in six forwards and three defensemen, in one of the deepest and most talented recruiting classes in recent memory.

Koper is joined by Kruise Reddick (Tri-City 2006-2011), Brett Ferguson (Red Deer 2008-2011), Jordan Hickmott (Medicine Hat/Prince Albert/Edmonton 2005-2011), James Dobrowolski (Prince Albert/Prince George 2007-2011), and Travis Toomey (Saskatoon/Seattle 2005-2011) at forward while defencemen Jordan Rowley (Kamloops/Prince Albert 2005-2011), Thomas Carr (Medicine Hat 2008-2011), and Barron Smith (London/Peterborough 2008-2011) bulk up the blue-line.

"The additions of Koper, Ferguson, and Hickmott, combined with Reddick, Dobrowolski, and Toomey up front gives us four very strong lines and excellent depth through our entire roster," said Marple, who has nine returning forwards from last season, as well as five returning defensemen and three goalies.

Koper and James Reid, who committed to play at the University of Lethbridge, will both take advantage of their Continuing Education Scholarship that awards players one year of post-secondary tuition, textbook and administrative expenses at a post-secondary institution of their choice.
