Marquis To Make Rehab Start Tuesday
May 11, 2010 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Potomac Nationals News Release
Washington Nationals right-handed pitcher Jason Marquis will make his first rehab start Tuesday with the Potomac Nationals at Pfitzner Stadium in Woodbridge, Virginia. The 2009 National League All-Star is expected to throw 50-60 pitches as he works his way back from the disabled list.
First pitch Tuesday between the Potomac Nationals (14-17) and the Winston-Salem Dash (21-10) is set for 7:03 p.m. Gates open at 6 p.m. and tickets may be purchased on site prior to the game or by calling the Potomac Nationals ticket office at 703-590-2311.
Marquis signed with the Nationals as a free agent on Jan. 4, 2010, and made three starts for the big club before he was placed on the DL with bone chips in his elbow. He was 0-3 with 19 earned runs allowed in 8 1/3 innings.
A nine-year MLB veteran, Marquis earned his first All-Star selection last season as a member of the Colorado Rockies. He made 33 starts for Colorado, including a complete-game shutout on June 30 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. He posted a 15-13 record, making him one of only 10 big-league pitchers to record a double-digit win total in every season since 2004.
If things go well in Potomac, Marquis could make his next rehab start Sunday at Double-A Harrisburg.
Media wishing to cover Marquis' rehab in Woodbridge should contact Tripp Miller, director of media relations, at tmiller@potomacnationals.com or 703-586-6617 to secure a credential.
