
Marlins Strike out Steamers

EDENTON, NC - The Edenton Steamers fell to the Morehead City Marlins by a final count of 11-6 on Wednesday night. Edenton (7-7) surrendered a season-high 11 runs, while Morehead City (8-5) struck out 13 Steamer hitters.
Starter Trevor Houck shouldered the loss for the Teal and Black. Houck (0-1) lasted three innings, allowing five earned runs on seven hits.
Anthony Morris got the win for the Marlins. Morris (2-0) surrendered four earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts to four walks.
Morehead City grabbed the lead with a run in the second. Dominick Cammarata, Michael Druhan and Chase Chambers loaded the bases with no outs on three singles to open the inning. Two batters later, Matt O'Neill flew out down the right field line to plate Cammarata for a 1-0 lead.
The Clams evened things up in the bottom of the inning. Tony Rosselli led off the frame with a double, coming home on a one-out single from Jimbo Pernetti.
The Marlins came back in the third with four runs of their own. Christian Campbell started the rally with a single, and Romeo Cortina put two on with one out after being hit by a pitch. Cammarata doubled in both runners, coming home himself on a Druhan single. Chambers added another single to put men on first and second, and a wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position. Matthew Batten gave Morehead City a 5-1 lead with a sacrifice fly to right field in the next at bat.
The Fish tallied two more runs in the fourth. Justin Weigle led off with a walk, and an errant throw from Aaron Aucker in the next at bat left Marlins on second and third. Romeo Cortina's flyout two batters later advanced the runners and scored Weigle. Tyler Weyenberg boldy stole home on a close play at the plate that gave Morehead City a 7-1 advantage.
Another Marlin run scored on a homerun from Druhan in the fifth bringing the score to 8-1.
The Steamers cut into the defecit with three runs in the sixth. Back to back singles for Thatcher Coleman and Bobby Schuman put two Clams on with no outs. After a strikeout, Trey Hair scorched a ball over the scoreboard in right field, trimming the Marlins' lead to 8-4.
The two teams traded runs in the seventh, and Morehead City came to the dish in the eighth leading 9-5. Consecutive walks to start the inning gave the Marlins two base runners with no outs. Cortina brought both Fish home with a double.
The Steamers picked up one more run in the bottom of the inning, and they couldn't rally in the ninth, falling 11-6.
