SwampDogs Squeeze Steamers for Victory

June 16, 2016 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - A four run rally tied the game, before a suicide squeeze in the 10th inning secured the 5-4 win for the Fayetteville SwampDogs on Thursday.

In front of a packed fireworks crowd, the SwampDogs produced plenty of excitement with a four run seventh inning to tie the game. In the 10th, the Dogs loaded the bases for Frankie Jezioro (Slippery Rock) who executed the bunt to notch the win.

Edenton scored three times in the top of the second with two outs and added another run in the fourth to take a four nothing lead behind starter Ted Christie (Union) who was nearly unhittable for five innings.

The SwampDogs struck in the seventh against the Steamers' bullpen as Tyler Tharp (VMI) started the rally. Jack Conley (NC State) moved him to second with an infield hit. Trey Vickers (Wichita State) plated a run with an RBI single. Logan Corrigan (James Madison) delivered a two-run, pinch-hit double to put the tying run within one. Pinch-runner Jezioro (Slippery Rock) moved to third on a ground out and then scored the tying run on a wild pitch.

The game went into extra innings as the SwampDogs bullpen of Zack Martinelli (Seton HIll), Will Edwards (Chowan) and David Marriggi (Towson) combined for four scoreless innings of relief to set the stage for the 10th.

Marrigi earns the win to improve to 1-0. Sam Beattie pitched well for Edenton in the ninth but takes the loss to fall to 0-1.

The SwampDogs hit the road Friday to play Wilson before returning home on Saturday for All About Buds, Dog Day at the Park presented by RA Jeffreys. First pitch is at 7:05pm both nights.
