July 2, 2012 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Wilson Tobs News Release

WILSON, N.C - The Morehead City Marlins picked up its first win of the second half of the Coastal Plain League season on Monday night by downing the Wilson Tobs 8-4 at Historic Fleming Stadium.

Morehead City (1-1, 11-18) led by a pair of runs as they came to bat in the third inning against Tobs right-hander Demetrus Ingram (L, 0-1). The Marlins were able to get the first two runners on base before Sal Annunziata launched a three-run home run over the wall in the left field for a five-run lead.

Wilson (1-1, 10-20) answered back in their half of the third scoring two runs on a bunt single by Zack Lee but the throw from Matt Anderson went down the right field line allowing Aaron Rea and Collins Cuthrell to score and make it 5-2.

That would be as close as the Tobs would be as the Marlins plated two more runs in the fourth before adding another run in the sixth to go up 8-2.

Wilson plated a pair of runs in the ninth inning on back-to-back doubles from Zach Houchins and Joe Costigan for the final 8-4 margin.

The Tobs hit the road on Tuesday night as they travel to Buck Hardee Field to battle the Wilmington Sharks. Wilson will return to Fleming Stadium on Wednesday night at 7:05 to take on the Edenton Steamers.

The Wilson Tobs are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both the players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 52 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and CY Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
