
Blowfish Start Second Half with Win over HiToms

THOMASVILLE, N.C.- The Columbia Blowfish started the second half like they finished the first half with a win Monday night. The Blowfish topped the Thomasville HiToms 4-3 in Coastal Plain League action.
The Blowfish got things started in the second with a run when Jarrod Reed singled home Joshua Miller to give the Blowfish a 1-0 lead. The HiToms would answer in the next inning with three runs of their own.
The Blowfish answered in the top of the fourth with three runs of their own to take the 4-3 lead. A tony Price RBI double scored the first run in the ining for the Blowfish. A Federico Castagnini ground out to third tied the game and a Graham Saiko RBI single to left gave the Blowfish the lead.
Blowfish starter Wyatt Brown lasted just three innings giving up three runs on five hits while striking out four. Brown was relieved by Joshua Knab who also went three innings giving up just two hits while striking out three. Knab also got the win. Adam Albers also pitched two innings for the Blowfish giving up two hits with a strikeout. Connor Sullivan got the save for the Blowfish pitching a scoreless ninth.
The Blowfish return home on Tuesday to face the Martinsville Mustangs at 7:05. There will be a patriotic fireworks display after the game and tickets are available at www.blowfishbaseball.com.
The Columbia Blowfish are in their seventh season at Historic Capital City Stadium and are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 51 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
