Morehead City Marlins News Release
Morehead City, N.C. - The Morehead City Marlins were defeated by the Wilmington Sharks on Monday night by the score of 13-8, after the start of the game was delayed by about an hour due to rain.
The Sharks scored 2 runs in each the first, second, third, and fifth innings to take an early 8-0 lead on the Marlins. However, forty percent of the Marlins' offensive run production comes in the fifth and sixth innings, soeven based on historythey were far from done. Morehead City scored 8 unanswered runs to tie it up heading into the ninth, but Wilmington created separation with 5 more runs of their own in the top of the final frame.
The loss nudges the Marlins back below a winning percentage of .500, a mark they seem to be weaving across, back and forth lately. With the day off on Tuesday, the Marlins prepare to host twelve home games in the next seventeen days before the All-Star break.
It all starts Wednesday when the Columbia Blowfish make their way to Puck O'Neal Field at Big Rock Stadium to take part in a doubleheader with the Marlins, making up for Friday's postponed game in Columbia. It will be Carteret County Chamber Night, as well as the Marlins Notepad Giveaway! The first game of the twin bill is set to start at 6:05 p.m., so gates will open at 5 o'clock.
