Marlies Sign Michael Ouzas To AHL Contract

Mike Penny, General Manager of the Toronto Marlies, announced today that the club has signed goaltender Michael Ouzas to an AHL contract. In keeping with club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Ouzas, 22, led the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds men's hockey team to consecutive National Finals - winning gold in 2007 and capturing silver in the recent 2008 event. This past season, the Hamilton, Ontario native posted a 20-1-0-1 record with a 1.91 goals-against average and .924 save percentage. Ouzas was named a 2007-08 CIS All-Canadian and an AUS first team all-star.

From 2002-06 Ouzas appeared in 129 games in the Ontario Hockey League with four different teams; the Barrie Colts, Toronto St. Michael's Majors, Mississauga IceDogs and Owen Sound Attack. He compiled his best season with the IceDogs during the 2004-05 season, earning a 24-11-9 record with a 2.18 goals-against average and .926 save percentage in 44 games. In 2005, Ouzas was named the OHL Goaltender of the Year.

The 5'10, 189-pound goaltender signed an amateur try-out contract with the Toronto Marlies on Tuesday, April 8, 2008. The Marlies finished their Calder Cup playoff run last Friday evening, losing to the Chicago Wolves in the Western Conference Finals. For 2008-09 ticket information, including season
