Beloit Sky Carp News Release

After three-straight nights of failed comeback bids, the Beloit Snappers finally capped off a rally behind the hot bat of Tyler Marincov as they defeated Bowling Green 5-4 Saturday night.

Marincov fell a double short of the cycle (3-for-4, HR, 3B, 1B) and began the Beloit charge with his 12th home run of the season (2nd in two nights) in the fourth inning.

The Hot Rods jumped out to a 3-0 lead and it appeared the Snappers would suffer another similar and disappointing loss, as nothing went Beloit's way until Marincov's homer in the fourth.

The Snappers hit back-to-back home runs for the second night in a row, as B.A. Vollmuth followed Marincov's at-bat with a solo shot of his own to cut Bowling Green's lead to 3-2.

Beloit tied the game in the fifth inning as Justin Higley delivered an RBI-single to score Melvin Mercedes from second base. Higley went 2-for-3 on the night, his second consecutive multi-hit night after beginning his Beloit career 3-for-28 in eight games.

The Hot Rods weren't content with a tie ballgame for long, as they regained the lead in the following frame. Darryl George led off the sixth with a double and Elias Torres came through clutch with a 2-out RBI-single to send George across the plate.

Trailing 4-3, the combination of Marincov and Vollmuth stepped up once again as Marincov tied the game with an RBI-triple to score Luis Baez. Vollmuth provided the winning run as his sacrifice fly to left field scored Marincov and gave Beloit the final 5-4 advantage.

Hunter Adkins picked up his first win as a Snapper as he went six innings, giving up eight hits and four earned runs.

Brendan McCurry pitched two solid innings in relief, striking out four batters, walking two, and not allowing a hit. Bobby Wahl recorded the save for Beloit, his fourth of the season.

The Snappers and Hot Rods return to Pohlman Field Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. for the second game of their three-game series.
