Aguilera Powers Bees to Marathon Win

(Grand Rapids, MI) Eric Aguilera ended a marathon with a solo homerun in the 15th inning to give the Bees a 4-3 win, in game one of a three game series at Fifth Third Ballpark in Grand Rapids.

Raph Rhymes gave the Whitecaps a 1-0 lead, in the bottom of the first inning, with a single, scoring Javier Betancourt.

Kody Eaves picked up the Bees' first hit of the game with a one out single in the third. Angel Rosa then came to the plate and tied the game at one with a double, scoring Eaves from first.

West Michigan took back the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning thanks to a single from Jose Zambrono, scoring Jeff Holm, and a sacrifice fly by Austin Schotts.

The Bees started the eighth inning with three straight hits, as the Bees crawled to within a run on a Mike Fish single. Eric Aguilera tied the game with a sacrifice fly, scoring Angel Rosa, making the score 3-3.

The Bees had a chance in the ninth inning with the bases loaded and two outs but Angel Rosa few out to the warning track as the game remained tied at three.

The game remained scoreless until the 15th inning when Eric Aguilera crushed a solo home run to right, giving the Bees a 4-3 lead, their first lead of the night.

Ben Carlson (3-1) sat the Whitecaps down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 15th inning, securing the Bees win and picking up his third win of the season.

Artie Lewicki (0-1) was charged with the loss for West Michigan, in his Midwest League debut.

The Bees bullpen pitched nine shutout innings, allowing just three hits.

The Burlington Bees (54-44) continue their three game series with the West Michigan Whitecaps (59-39) on Sunday at 12:00 PM Central Time. Victor Alcantara takes the mound for the Bees against Jon Maciel.
