Austin Spurs News Release
GREENVILLE, S.C., March 31 - The New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets announced today they have signed Austin Toros forward Marcus Fizer to a 10-day contact, making him the 16th GATORADE Call-Up of the 2005-06 NBA Development League season.
"Marcus is a proven NBA player and he'll help strengthen our injury-depleted frontline as we make our playoff push," said Hornets General Manager Jeff Bower. "He showed great professionalism this season by improving his game in the D-League, and we look forward to the contributions he'll be able to make right away."
Fizer was named the D-League's Most Valuable Player for the 2005-06 season earlier today after averaging 22.7 points and 7.8 rebounds in 35 games with the Toros. Fizer signed a 10-day contract with the Seattle SuperSonics on March 8, but did not appear in a game. In the five games prior to his call-up by the Hornets, Fizer had averaged 37.0 points and 9.0 rebounds for the Toros.
Fizer has appeared in 232 NBA career games (35 starts), averaging 10.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists with the Chicago Bulls and Milwaukee Bucks. He was selected with the fourth overall pick in the 2000 NBA Draft by the Bulls, where he played for four seasons (2000-04) before signing as a free agent with Milwaukee prior to the 2004-05 season.
