Dazzle adds guards to help in chase for playoff spot

March 31, 2006 - NBA G League (G League)
Roanoke Dazzle News Release

Roanoke, Va., March 31 - The Roanoke Dazzle announce that guards Brian Chase and James Taylor have been signed to the roster. The Dazzle had these roster spots available with the recent call-ups of All D-League guards Anthony Grundy and Will Bynum to the Atlanta Hawks and Golden State Warriors respectively.

Chase, a former Virginia Tech standout, joins the Dazzle after participating in the Dazzle's 2004-05 training camp as an allocated player. With his addition to the Dazzle roster, Chase joins former Hokie teammate Bryant Matthews and forms the second pair of college teammates on the Dazzle. The other pair consists of Tyrone Sally and D'or Fischer, who played together at West Virginia University.

At 5-10, 170, Chase led the Big East Conference in three-point field goal percentage as a sophomore and junior at Virginia Tech. In 103 career collegiate games, Chase averaged 10.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists. In a 75-game career at Virginia Tech he averaged 12.3 points, 1.7 assists and 2.9 rebounds. He is the Hokies' career leader in three-point field goal percentage at .419 (194-463).

"We are excited to have Brian come in and play for us," said Dazzle Coach Kent Davison. "He came into camp last season and did some nice things but was behind a veteran Cory Alexander at the point guard position. He has the chance to really help us in the playoff run."

Also joining the Dazzle is James Taylor, a 6-1, 170, guard. After receiving the lone invitation from local tryouts, Taylor participated in this years training camp with the Dazzle.

Taylor, who played professionally overseas this season, attended Lynn University in Florida. At Lynn, Taylor earned Second Team All-Sunshine Conference honors in both his junior and senior seasons while also making the Dean's List all four years. Taylor finished his collegiate career as Lynn's all-time leading scorer with 1,406 points.

"James Taylor is a young man who came in and really stood out at our local tryouts and earned a spot in our training camp." said Davison. "With the guards we started out with in Will Bynum and Anthony Grundy it was tough for him to earn a spot in the finals roster but he went and played well overseas. I believe he will bring a lot of energy and athletic ability to the team as we push for the playoffs."

Both are expected to be in uniform Saturday when the Dazzle is host to the Tulsa 66ers. The Dazzle plays their final two regular season home games at the Roanoke Civic Center on Saturday, April 1st and Sunday, April 2nd when the Tulsa 66ers come to town. The Dazzle currently reside in second place in the D-League standings and are in line to host a playoff game. The top two teams in the standings earning a home playoff game and the top four overall earn a playoff berth.
