Bradenton Marauders News Release
Port St. Lucie, FL - One big inning was enough for the Marauders (1-0, 33-38) to defeat the Mets (0-1, 35-36) 4-3 at Tradition Field on Thursday night. Bradenton scored four runs in the top of the seventh to erase a 2-0 deficit, then held off a Mets comeback attempt in the ninth.
C Reese McGuire started the comeback bid with a blooper to left field for a single off Miller Diaz (L, 4-5).
Diaz, who had blanked Bradenton to that point, surrendered a bunt single to 3B Wyatt Mathisen. After a fielder's choice left men at the corners, LF Michael Fransoso poked an RBI single to left field to cut the lead in half. After a hit batter loaded the bases, CF Austin Meadows walked to tie the game. RF Harold Ramirez connected for a two-run single to right to chase Diaz and cap the scoring for the Marauders.
LHP Cody Dickson (W, 6-5) shook off bouts of wildness in the early innings to toss six while allowing two runs. He walked six and struck out five. RHP Montana DuRapau faced the minimum over two innings of scoreless relief.
RHP Isaac Sanchez tenuously earned the save in the ninth. He surrendered a one-out double to Jeff Glenn and followed it with a walk to Jeff McNeil. After a deep fly to right allowed both runners to move up, Sanchez stood one out from ending the game. Matt Oberste hit a slow chopper to the third base side, and a collision between McNeil and Mathisen allowed a run to score. Sanchez induced a game ending flyout from cleanup hitter Dominic Smith to secure the win.
