Bradenton Marauders News Release
VIERA, FL - The Bradenton Marauders, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, routed the Brevard County Manatees again Saturday, 7-0, to take the first two games of a series at Space Coast Stadium.
The ballgame started off with a bang when Robbie Grossman led off with a double. He advanced to third base when centerfielder D'Vontrey Richardson misplayed the ball in leftcenter. Grossman later scored his 99th run of the season on a single from Ramon Cabrera for a 1-0 lead.
Bradenton increased the advantage to 2-0 when Aaron Baker hit a sacrifice fly in the third to score Adalberto Santos. The leftfielder had previously reached on a single and stole his way across the diamond. Evan Chambers capped the inning with a two run homerun, also scoring the walked Cabrera, for a 4-0 lead.
Walks led to the rest of Bradenton's offense. Santos took a pass in the fifth, later scoring when Elevys Gonzalez hit a ball that skipped off Scooter Gennett at second base with the bases loaded. Gennett had difficulty on the play after colliding with the runner from first, Chambers.
The seventh inning began with singles by Kelson Brown and Bengie Gonzalez. Both hits deflected off the glove of an infielder. The starter Austin Ross was then lifted for reliever Jonathan Pokorney. The lefty induced a flyout from Grossman before walking three consecutive batters, the latter two to Cabrera and Baker forcing in runs for a 7-0 lead.
Jhonthan Ramos dominated on the mound, going a career best seven innings without allowing a run on five singles. Ramos is now 3-0 as a starter with the Marauders after beginning the year in the pen. He's allowed four runs in 22 and third innings of work. He earned the win while Tyler Cox and Ryan Beckman worked two scoreless innings of relief.
The Marauders remain in first place in the Florida State League South and improve to 21-16. Brevard County falls to 16-18.
Bradenton returns to Space Coast Field Sunday at 5:05 with radio coverage beginning at 4:50 on 1280-AM WTMY. For more information visit BradentonMarauders.com.
