The Manitoba Moose (23-27-3-4) continued their four-game road trip tonight as they finished off a two-game set versus the Rockford IceHogs (21-28-8-3). It didn't take the Moose long to get on the board as Manitoba's Kyle Connor slipped in behind Rockford's defence and snapped a quick wrister past IceHogs netminder Mac Carruth just 11 seconds into the opening frame. JC Lipon and Julian Melchiori drew the assists on Connor's sixth goal in his last four games. The Moose PK was busy in the first period, snuffing out all three Rockford powerplays. Manitoba's second period began a lot like their first as Kyle Connor continued the scoring, picking up his second of the game 1:10 into the frame off a gorgeous give and go with Dan DeSalvo. The Moose extended their lead 1:28 later when Scott Kosmachuk blasted a shot past Carruth on play set up by the work of Jack Roslovic. Manitoba's final goal of the frame came off the stick of Quinton Howden, a mere 58 seconds after Manitoba's third marker. Howden scooped up a loose puck in the high slot and found twine for his 13th of the season. Peter Stoykewych, along with Ryan Olsen, grabbed assists. Howden's goal chased Rockford's Carruth from the net as Lars Johansson played in relief. Eric Comrie was steady in the Moose net through 40 minutes, making 23 saves. The third frame didn't start the way Manitoba had hoped as Rockford scored three goals on the powerplay in 3:20 to pull within one. Rockford's scoring began with Kyle Baun netting his 11th of the season at 1:02. Luke Johnson took advantage of a Jan Kostalek penalty 1:39 later for his sixth of the season. Then Tyler Motte capitalized on a Brenden Lemieux minor penalty at 4:22, bringing the score to 4-3. After giving up three straight goals, Manitoba calmed down held off Rockford's offense. The Moose grabbed the insurance marker at 18:30 when JC Lipon stepped over centre and saucered a shot down into an empty net, solidifying a 5-3 win and Manitoba's fourth straight victory. Quick Hits
