Manchester Monarchs News Release
HARTFORD, CT - Left wing Pierre Parenteau scored a goal and two assists as the Manchester Monarchs fell to the Hartford Wolf Pack 4-1 in front of 2,893 fans at the XL Center on Saturday night.
Monarchs' defenseman Alec Martinez sat in the penalty box for a mere six seconds for holding before Parenteau scored his third goal of the season to double Hartford's lead to 2-0. Right wing Greg Moore sent the puck to Parenteau who was positioned at the top of the left face-off circle as the Wolf Pack set up in the Monarchs zone. Parenteau wound up and fired a slap shot that soared past Monarchs netminder Jonathan Quick and into the net. Center Tommy Pyatt picked up his second assist of the season on the goal at 6:43 of the middle stanza.
Center Artem Anisimov tickled the twine with his first tally of the season at 9:12 of the opening frame to give the Wolf Pack the early lead. Picking up the puck in the neutral zone, Anisimov carried it along the right wing boards and around Monarchs defenseman Andrew Campbell before redirecting his stride toward the net. Side stepping defenseman Drew Bagnall in front of the cage, Anisimov slipped the puck past Quick for the 1-0 advantage. Defenseman Chris Murray and Parenteau picked up assists on the first goal of the game.
The Monarchs cut the Wolf Pack's lead in half at 1:58 of the third period with a power play goal. With several bodies in front of Hartford's goaltender Miika Wiikman, Martinez threw the puck into the crease from the left wing boards. Wiikman made the initial save as the puck bounced off of center David Meckler but center Trevor Lewis was on the doorstep for the rebound and his second goal of the season.
Hartford quickly returned the favor with their second power play goal of the game at 3:37 of the final frame. Pyatt skated down the left wing and cut to the net. Quick made the save on Pyatt's backhand but left wing Dane Byers was on the doorstep to chip the rebound over Quick for his third tally of the season. Parenteau collected his third point of the night with an assist on the play.
Less than a minute later, right wing Dale Weiss flipped in his second goal of the season to give the Wolf Pack a 4-1 lead. Anisimov took the puck from behind the net and tried to jam it into the net on Quick's right side. The puck slid through the crease and Weiss was there to tap in the goal at 4:21 of the third period.
At 6:41, Anisimov took out Monarchs center Bud Holloway along the far boards. With Holloway down on the ice, Campbell came to his defense and took on Anisimov in a bit of a wrestling match. The remaining players on the ice paired up with Manchester's right wing Denny Johnston dropping the gloves with left wing Brodie Dupont. Holloway returned to the game midway through the period. The teams combined for 100 penalty minutes in the game.
Quick (1-3-0) took the loss with 22 saves of 26 shots. Wiikman (3-2-1) earned his third victory of the season stopping 31-of-32 shots.
Manchester went 1-for-6 with the man advantage. Hartford was 2-for-8 on the power play.
The Monarchs return to the Verizon Wireless Arena on Wednesday, October 29 to host the Lowell Devils in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
