Munroe Continues Phantoms Mastery Of River Rats In 3-0 Win

ALBANY, NY - Scott Munroe had a 31-save shutout and three different players scored as the Philadelphia Phantoms snapped a five-game slide with a 3-0 win over the Albany River Rats at the Times Union Center. The shutout gave Munroe a scoreless streak of over 165 minutes at the TUC dating back to Game 5 of last season's East Division Semifinals during the Calder Cup playoffs.

The Phantoms grabbed their first goal with 2:14 left in the first period. Steve Downie stole a puck along the left-wing boards in the neutral zone and came in with Claude Giroux on a 2-on-1. Downie faked a wrister that drew a commitment from Albany goaltender Daniel Manzato, and then calmly pulled the puck to his backhand and tucked it in the short side. The unassisted marker gave Philadelphia a 1-0 lead at the first intermission.

With 7:40 gone in the second period, the Phantoms were granted a penalty shot when Jonathon Kalinski was hauled down from behind while shooting on Manzato at the end of a breakaway. Manzato made the pad stop on Kalinski's attempt.

The lead doubled with 9:01 to play in the second on the first professional goal for Patrick Maroon. Maroon joined the action from the bench and was immediately dispatched on a breakaway thanks to a 65-foot pass from Nate Guenin that originated in the Phantoms zone and ended on Maroon's stick at the Albany blue line. Maroon walked in on the forehand, pulled to the backhand and beat Manzato over his right pad to make it a 2-0 game. Danny Syvret closed out the scoring with an empty-netter with 14.1 seconds to play in the third.

Going back to last season's playoffs, Munroe has allowed just one goal in his last 296:33 of action against the River Rats. He didn't allow a goal from the 17:14 mark of the second period in Game 5, which went into the fifth overtime, until 10:38 of overtime in Game 6 - a scoreless streak of 176:22. After that Game 6 OT goal, Munroe proceeded to shut out the Rats in Game 7. His scoreless streak at the Times Union Center is 165:44.

The Phantoms continue their road swing on Wednesday night when they visit the Norfolk Admirals for a 7:15 start. The game will be broadcast live on Phantomshockey.com via AHL Live courtesy of your Philadelphia Area Dodge Dealers.
