Chicago Wolves News Release
MILWAUKEE---Right wing Joe Motzko notched the game-winning, power-play goal and right wing Junior Lessard scored twice as the Chicago Wolves defeated the Milwaukee Admirals, 5-3, at the Bradley Center on Saturday night. Forwards Riley Holzapfel (2A) and Grant Stevenson (G, A) and defenseman Jamie Rivers (2A) each notched multiple points as Chicago (4-1-1-0) extended its winning streak to four games. After trading goals throughout the first two periods, Motzko broke a 3-3 tie when he potted his first tally of the season 54 seconds into the final frame. The marker came when Motzko took an across ice pass from Rivers in the near circle and deposited a shot past sprawling Admirals goaltender Drew MacIntyre. Lessard put the Wolves on the board 1:40 into the game with his first goal of the night when a shot by Rivers went wide and rung around the boards to Lessard at the blue line, where he fired a rocket past MacIntyre. Milwaukee (2-4-0-1) equaled the score at one when center Nick Spaling converted on Milwaukee's first power-play opportunity, beating Wolves netminder Ondrej Pavelec at 4:21 of the opening frame. Pavelec (4-2-0) posted 18 saves in picking up his fourth straight victory. Defenseman Chad Denny put the Wolves back on top, 2-1, when he cranked a long blast past MacIntyre at 7:49 of the first period. Left wing Josh Gratton's second goal of the year at 18:58 leveled the score at two. Gratton took a length of the ice pass from Andreas Thuresson, and snuck a shot through Pavelec's pads. The Admirals grabbed their only lead of the night, 3-2, at 5:38 of the middle frame. Defenseman Scott Ford's shot from the far point hit of the end boards and bounced to center Geoff Peters who was waiting at the doorstep and slid the puck into an open net. Lessard's second tally of the night at 16:13 of the second period drew the Wolves even with the Admirals at three. Lessard streaked down the near boards and his shot from the top of the circle beat MacIntyre blocker side. MacIntyre (1-3-0) turned away 28 shots for Milwaukee. Stevenson added an empty net goal at 19:44 of the third period to close out the scoring. The Wolves return home to host the Rockford IceHogs at the Allstate Arena on Sunday at 3 p.m.
