Quad City Mallards News Release
QUACK TRACKS
Skid
The Mallards have lost five of their last six games. Last Thursday's win in Evansville ended a run of four straight regulation losses. That skid was the Mallards' first losing streak of the season.
Drop
The Mallards' loss to the Americans combined with the Fort Wayne Komets' win over the Toledo Walleye pushed the Mallards out of first place in the Midwest Division last Saturday night and enabled the Komets to take over the top spot. While the Komets are just one point ahead of the second place Mallards, Fort Wayne does have four games in hand on the Mallards.
Splitsville
The road team won both games as the Mallards earned a split of their home-and-home with Evansville last week. The Mallards rebounded to win 6-4 last Thursday after falling 3-2 one night earlier. With last Saturday's loss to Allen the Mallards finished their season series against the defending Kelly Cup champion Americans 1-1-0 after winning their season opener October 16 at the Allen Event Center.
Home Sweet Home?
The Mallards have lost three straight home games. They have also dropped four of their last five home tilts after going 10-1-1 in their first 12 iWireless Center outings.
Drought
The Mallards have scored two goals or fewer in five of their last six games. They have produced just a single goal in three of their last five games.
Between the Pipes
Brody Hoffman has made 115 saves (on 124 shots) over his last three starts to post a .927 save percentage while facing over 40 shots in each of those three games.
Iron Mike
Mike Monfredo ranks third among ECHL defensemen in assists (19) and is tied for fifth among defensemen in points (22).
Impact Player
Brady Brassart picked up an assist while making his ECHL debut for the Mallards last Wednesday against Evansville and one night later scored his first Mallard goal (and added another assist) against the IceMen.
Double Down
Matt Carey last Thursday night in Evansville scored twice in the same game for the first time in his career.
Rook
Matt Neal leads the Mallards in goals (10) and is tied for fifth among ECHL rookies in goals.
Trifecta
Austin Coldwell notched a career high three points last Thursday night by assisting on the Mallards' first three goals. Coldwell and Vladimir Nikiforov- who had a goal and two assists in that contest- last Thursday matched the team season high for points in one game.
Special Teams
The Mallards killed off 44 of their foes' 46 power plays in the month of December. The Mallards rank third in the ECHL in penalty killing (86.9 percent). They have converted one of their last 15 power plays and rank twelfth in the league on the man advantage (18.2 percent).
Head to Head
The Mallards opened their seven-game season series with Fort Wayne by defeating the Komets 2-1 on home ice November 15. All-time, the Mallards have gone 46-47-11 against Fort Wayne. The ECHL is the fourth different league in which the two teams have clashed. They previously competed against each other in the United, International and Central Leagues.
Milestones
Mike Monfredo will take over sole possession eleventh place in Mallard history in career games played the next time he takes the ice. Monfredo played his two hundred thirty-sixth game for the Mallards last Saturday against Allen to move into a tie with Kerry Toporowski.
