Mallards Travel to Fort Wayne Before Pair of Weekend Home Games

Moline, IL-The Mallards went 2-0-1 last week to begin the month of March with a three-game unbeaten streak. The week included two victories over Fort Wayne and a shootout loss in Rockford. On Wednesday, the Mallards earned a 4-3 win over the Komets. Fort Wayne returned to The MARK on Friday and suffered a 6-1 loss to the Mallards. On Saturday night, the Mallards gained a regulation point at The Metrocentre in a 4-3 shootout loss to the IceHogs.

This week, the Mallards head to Fort Wayne for another showdown with the Komets. Next weekend, the Mallards return home for a pair of games with Port Huron. The Flags are at The MARK on Friday and Saturday to wrap up their season series with the Mallards.

The Mallards are raising money for Travis Hearn this Saturday night. 41% of ticket revenues will be donated to the Travis Hearn Fund. This season's Jersey Auction will fall on St. Patrick's Day and will feature a St. Patrick Nadeau Bobblehead Giveaway from Casino Rock Island.

The Mallards visit the Komets on Wednesday night. It marks the teams' fifth meeting in the course of the last 20 days. Quad City is 3-1-0 during the first four games of the recent series vs. Fort Wayne. On the season, Quad City is 4-4-1 vs. the Komets.

Duck Talk on the Air

Duck Talk is back at The Blackbear Lounge at The Lodge tonight. Forwards Don Parsons, Luke Stauffacher and Blake Stewart join host Aaron Roof and Mallards Head Coach Brian Curran. The show begins at 6:00 p.m. at The Blackbear Lounge at The Lodge. Duck Talk can also be heard on Fox Sports Radio AM 1230.

Wednesday, February 28th - Fort Wayne 3 at Quad City 4 Shootout

The Mallards topped Fort Wayne 4-3 in a shootout on Wednesday night at The MARK. The highly entertaining affair featured three lead changes, and Mallards defenseman Dale Lupul recorded a shorthanded goal in his Quad City debut. After a scoreless first period, Lupul opened the scoring with his 13th goal of the year at 8:41 of the first period with the Komets on a power play. Just 1:19 later, the Komets tied the game on a goal by Bogdan Rudenko just one second after a Fort Wayne power play expired. The Komets captured the lead for the first time when Daniel Goneau scored with 1:15 left in the second frame. The Mallards reclaimed the lead with a pair of goals early in the third period. Sean Starke scored on a Mallards power play with 1:54 gone in the final frame before Don Parsons gave the Mallards a 3-2 lead with his 33rd tally of the year at 2:59 of the third. Guy Dupuis netted a power-play goal just 3:09 later to tie the game at three. With the score still knotted at the end of regulation, the teams headed to a shootout. Mallards netminder Jason Tapp was excellent in extra frames as he stopped four of five shooters. Newcomer Dale Lupul and Don Parsons scored for Quad City to earn the 27th Mallards victory of the year.

Friday, March 2nd - Fort Wayne 1 at Quad City 6

The Mallards stung the Fort Wayne Komets as they topped the Western Conference leading squad with a 6-1 win on Friday at The MARK. Dale Lupul and Brett Pilkington each recorded a pair of goals in the win. The Komets lone goal came just 2:30 into the game as Daniel Goneau scored on a Fort Wayne power play. The remainder of the first period, and the rest of the game, belonged to the Mallards as the team netted six unanswered goals. Brett Pilkington scored his first goal of the night at 5:42 of the opening frame to tie the game at one. Luke Stauffacher netted the game winner six minutes later with his 31st tally of the year. Dale Lupul scored his first goal of the night with 3:19 left in the period as the Mallards closed the first with a 3-1 lead. In the second, Chad Woollard scored his 25th goal of the season to extend the Mallards lead to 4-1. Jason Tapp stopped 15 Fort Wayne shots in the middle frame on his way to a 35-save performance and his 24th win of the season. In the final frame, Lupul netted his second goal of the night followed by Pilkington's second marker to set the final at 6-1.

Saturday, March 3rd - Quad City 3 at Rockford 4 Shootout

The Mallards remained unbeaten in their last three games with a heart-stopping 4-3 shootout loss on Saturday in Rockford. Rookie netminder Brad Smith stopped 46 shots in his Mallards debut while Sean Starke netted two goals for Quad City. The teams traded first period goals to set the score at 1-1 after one. Sean Starke scored for the Mallards at 8:32 of the first period after firing a Derek Miller rebound into the Rockford net. Paul Brown evened the game for Rockford with his third goal of the year. In the second, the Hogs took the lead for the first time on a power-play goal by Kevin Ulanski. At 9:08 of the second period, Dale Lupul scored his 16th goal of the year after taking a cross-ice feed from Luke Stauffacher. Jason Notermann reclaimed the lead for the Hogs when he tipped a Bryce Cockburn shot into the Quad City net. Rookie netminder Brad Smith was the star of the second period as he stopped 26 of the 28 shots he faced in the middle frame. In the third period, Starke added his second goal of the night and 11th of the year when he snapped a shot past Frederic Cloutier to tie the game at three. In the shootout, Dale Lupul gave the Mallards 1-0 lead when he scored in the second round. Nicolas Corbeil tied the extra session with a third round shootout goal. After a scoreless fourth round, Cloutier denied Chad Woollard in the Mallards half of the fifth before Kevin Ulanski netted the game-winning goal.

Player of the Week

Dale Lupul is the Mallards nominee for UHL Player of the Week. He began his Mallards career with six points (four goals and two assists) in his first three games with the team. He recorded a shorthanded goal on Wednesday vs. Fort Wayne. The rookie rearguard followed that performance with a four-point (two goals and two assists) performance vs. Fort Wayne on Friday. Lupul capped the week with a goal on Saturday vs. Rockford.

Goalie of the Week

Jason Tapp is the Mallards nominee for UHL Goaltender of the Week. He made 31 saves on Wednesday while earning a 4-3 shootout win over Fort Wayne. Friday night, he stopped 35 shots on his way to a 6-1 victory over the Komets.
