
Lupul Named UHL Player of the Week

Moline, IL-The United Hockey League announced today that Mallards defenseman Dale Lupul has been named the UHL Player of the Week for the period of February 26th through March 4th. Lupul was acquired from Elmira on Tuesday of last week and went on to record six points (four goals and two assists) in his first three games with the Mallards.
The rookie defenseman made his Mallards debut last Wednesday vs. Fort Wayne. He netted a shorthanded goal and added a shootout tally in the Mallards 4-3 shootout win over the Komets. In the Mallards rematch with Fort Wayne on Friday, Lupul earned first star honors after scoring two goals with two assists. Quad City earned a 6-1 win on the strength of Lupul's four-point night. The Port Coquitlam, British Columbia native capped the week with a goal and a shootout marker on Saturday night in a 4-3 shootout loss to Rockford.
Lupul was acquired from Elmira last week with defenseman Derek Miller in exchange for defensemen Andrei Lupandin and Nick Harloff and goaltender Zach Sikich. The 6-foot-2, 210 pound rearguard has 35 points (16 goals and 19 assists) in 59 games this year. He ranks sixth amongst UHL defensemen in points and is tied for seconds amongst blueliners in goals. Lupul also is tied for eighth in rookie scoring and is second in penalty minutes amongst rookie players (125).
The Mallards visit Fort Wayne on Wednesday night. Game time is 6:30 p.m. central time and the Hayman's Ace Hardware Pre-Game Show airs on Fox Sports Radio AM 1230 beginning at 6:05 p.m.
The Mallards return home on Friday for a showdown with Port Huron. Game time is 7:00 p.m. It's Girl Scout Night as Girl Scouts from throughout the Quad City area are invited to The MARK for just $10.
